Wiped Out

When was the last time I ever stayed up until 3 in the morning? Uh, never? Last night, the local police held a DWI checkpoint. I've been wanting to do a story about the DWI checkpoint/MADD for a while now and no one was available to shoot last night. So, I did. And it was interesting. I arrived before 11 and left a little before 3, the time the checkpoint ended. Most memorable moments - a police officer finding stashes of pot in a car, another police officer with two 1/4 filled bottles of whiskey he found in a car. I was a little nervous that people would be flipping me the bird but most were either too drunk to care or were trying to be nice and hope that would reflect on them as they tried to walk a straight line, test their balance, etc. One of the officers let me try the breathalyzer and it took me a few tries. You have to blow, blow, blow. After a long day, I just didn't have it in me. I eventually scored a perfect goose egg - what they call it when you don't have any alcohol in your system.

So, today has been fairly low key. I'm soooo tired. I'm looking forward to the upcoming three day weekend and more sleep. :)

Great Grandpa update

Jack's great grandpa, who was in the hospital because of a vehicle accident, had a heart attack last week and had double bypass surgery this morning. I hear that he is doing fine tonight. Wonderful news! We've been doing a lot of praying around here. Before Jack went to bed tonight, he asked, "Poppo?" We hope to see him as soon as his immediate family says it's okay. Jack's birth mom said that grandpa's eyes brightened when he saw Jack last week in the hospital!

Fun in the Park

This should have been a Wordless Wednesday type entry but I was too lazy last night. We had fun at the local park Wednesday night. Jack did not want us to leave, neither did the mosquitoes. What a big boy!The plane! The plane!Houston, I don't think we have lift off.Silly daddy. These rides are for kids.Time for dessert!

Sticker Mania

He used to hate them but now it appears that Jack loves stickers. So, we had some fun tonight.By the way, a friend of mine is in China now. She and her husband met their little girl on Sunday. I'm so happy for them. You can see pictures and send them congratulations on their Web site.

Weekly Update

It's been an interesting week. Jack and I seem relatively healthy. But my brother and his wife found out last week that my nephew's brain lesion has grown a bit. They will meet with his doctor this week and discuss the next step. The next step will likely be surgery (they had wanted to wait until he was two). If the surgery doesn't clear up the entire lesion, then poor Garrett will be put on chemo. Let's just say we're praying a lot around here. The thing is, Garrett doesn't act sick. He is the awnriest little guy. So, since his seizure last year, it's been hard to believe that he has something foreign in his head.Jack's great grandpa on his birth mother's side had an accident last week. He suffered a broken leg and a few messed up vertebrae. We saw him Thursday night. Later that evening he had a heart attack and is back in ICU.

And my sister-in-law's grandma died last week. So, not only was she grieving the passing of her last grandparent, she was also dealing with the news that her son's lesion was growing. It's been a rough week for her. I remember when my sweet grandma passed away. I was at college and it was a bleak, grey day. I was out with friends and on the way back to the dorm, I wondered how grandma was doing. I came into my dorm room to find my mother and father, my mom wearing a grey sweat shirt. The passing of loved ones is so painful. As I told my sister-in-law, it just plain sucks. On a much, much lighter note, Jack is talking up a storm. He says things like, "Where it go?" The other night he rephrased what Mike said and we were like, who-ah. So cute! I love my little stink bug. He loves bubble baths!

Ol' Smokey

Although the strep threat is gone, I still sound like I've smoked a pack of Marlboros. And pink must be my favorite color because my eyes are a rosy hue. I went to the doctor today and he said, "Your eyes do look red," neither confirming or denying my paranoid claim that I have pink eye. So, I have antibiotic drops that I'll be using for the next five days. Wee!

Last Weekend in Review

Boy, it's been a crazy week. I was on sick leave more than I was at work. First, Jack had pink eye, then I had strep. Not sure if I've ever had strep before. I may have in the past and just thought it was a bad sore throat. But I think Jack and I are on the mend.

Last weekend, Mike and I took an infant/child/adult CPR/AED and first aid class, which consisted of six hours of class and a test at the end. Our instructor was very good. I had a little test taking anxiety which stems from the desire to always get a perfect score. Also, you had to get so many right in each of the sections in order to pass. I didn't get 100 but I was told that I had one of the highest scores in class. :) Mike? Well, he passed.Me with Manny and Candy Striper.

We attended my hometown's parish picnic where mom and I kicked back and had margaritas. Okay, only one a piece but they were kind of weak. Maybe it's a good thing they weren't strong!

It was hot! Poor Jack. He was hot and I didn't realize at the time that he was coming down with pink eye. We played fish pond. Jack scored an inflatable sword which we still haven't blown up yet. Oops.We then headed to my folk's home where we spent all afternoon in the nice cool air. Jack did go outside for a bit with "grampa" and a ride on the tractor.Classic Jack shot! (Mouth open, too close, too much flash) That boy loves kettle corn.

My niece put a baby in a wipes box and said that I could have her as no one wanted her. Sad. I believe all babies belong to someone. They are all wanted but if only it was that easy, that babies were so easily available for those who long to start a family or add a little munchkin. Kind of like babies who grow in gardens.

Dying Car and The Show Me Sword Fighter

My car is dying a slow death. It's been to an auto shop three times in the past two months and it's still having issues. Now it's having trouble getting enough umph to go up hills. My dad worked on it a lot today and fixed a couple of things but it's the rest of the stuff, whatever it is, that's going to cost and probably a lot. Maybe it's time to invest in a motorcycle with a side car. I'm sure that would be totally safe for Jack. Of course, he'll be wearing a helmet. Safety first!

But, enough complaining. Here's a great tale of a brave warrior.

The Story of the Show Me Sword Fighter!
